About Us
Anthony Smith – Principal Clinician
Anthony Smith graduated from the University of Melbourne in 1978, and was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Cambridge to study for a PhD. He decided however to pursue his clinical interests and bought his first practice in Camberwell Junction in 1979. Adding a second practice at Moonee Ponds in 1996.
Anthony has 2 children who are both Optometrists.
Hayley (B.Sc.Optom. University of Melbourne) has worked for many years at OPSM and Specsavers and several private practices as a locum, and consequently Hayley has gained a wealth of experience that she brings to the Camberwell practice.
Lachlan is both an Audiologist and an Optometrist (the only person in Australia with both qualifications) and he works mainly in Moonee Ponds but also sees audiology patients in Camberwell. He also performs home, school and nursing home visits.
B.Sc.(University of Melbourne), M.Aud.St., M.Aud.SA.(CCP) (University of Queensland)
B.Vis.Sc, M.Optom. Therapeutically endorsed (Deakin University)
Lachlan is the only person in Australia with a Masters Degree in both Audiology and Optometry.
Anthony regularly attends the main European Trade Fairs in Paris and Milan, and personally imports several ranges of frames that are exclusive to us. Anthony has also designed many spectacle models for use in our practices. We stock an extensive range of quality fashion frames and sunglasses to suit all lifestyles, together with a full range of eyewear accessories and contact lens products, ranging from basic good value to simply the best money can buy.
Practices
Our Camberwell practice also has its own lens fitting lab, which enables us to cut and fit almost all spectacles, in house. We can fit new lenses to your frame without having to send them away.
After 30 plus years in business we have a large network of people that we can access.
If a referral to an ophthalmologist is wanted/required we are very well placed to advise you who is the most appropriate surgeon for you. Sometimes a GP will refer to “the local ophthalmologist” but a Macular Degeneration referral is very different from a glaucoma referral. We know the best people. Whether it be how to repair a broken frame, or who to recommend for cataract surgery.
Staff
Our Office Managers, Suzi and Jessica have been with us for many years. In fact it is worth noting that almost every staff member has remained with the business for many years. The main reason seems to be that it is a pleasant place to work. So pop in for a chat, try on some new specs or sunnies, you’re sure to enjoy the experience.
If you’ve never tried contact lenses before, we can try them on you. It’s a free service. It’s nice to do something you’ve never done before, especially when it costs you nothing.
We also have a collection box for ‘old’ glasses at each practice. These pre-loved glasses are used in overseas aid programs, so bring in any old glasses gathering dust in a drawer at home! Anthony has participated in volunteer programs in the Phillipines and has seen at first hand the value of these donated glasses.
